Learning to See Part I

Please read part I of Learning to See.  We will practice the technique the author describes in order to better notice what is in the world around us.  Do you think this technique will help you?  How?

Feel free to go on to Parts 2 and 3, listed at the bottom of the article.

For full credit, you must comment on this reading no later November 17.

Also, please add to the "Lead" blog post.  Remember what makes a good lead - action words.  No use of the word "I".

  1. yes i think the technique will help because you need to make sure you get the full detail of the picture and the backround.
it will help beause you look at a picture from left to right so you want to hav e a good backround so it draws attention to the whole picture and not just parts of the picture.

  2. Looking from right-to-left will be of great use to me while taking photos and observing my environment when doing so. This will be a benefit to me, as I will be able to focus on one thing at a time and still not miss a thing, thanks to my camera. While taking my photos, I tend to look from left-to-right when doing so, as I was taught to read that way. Looking right-to-left will help me slow down and observe each and every individual object and or person in the pictures.

  3. Yes, I do believe that this technique will help. Like the author described, when you're looking form left to right you tend to skip over things because you think that you see all that there is to see. But if you take the time to look from right to left, you will see more that there is to the eye. You have to look at things from a slanted perspective sometimes in order to see more than what meets the eye. Look at things differently and treat it as if you're reading a book. Are you really understanding what's being said? Are you skipping over things that you shouldn't? Those are the types of questions I frequently ask myself, to ensure that I'm fully comprehending everything and being able to capture what's being said. It doesn't matter if it's a picture, take the time to look around and really see what's going on. Don't overlook things that could in turn become a masterpiece.

  4. Cailynn, these are very insightful thoughts. I found myself paying closer attention and trying this strategy during my day to day life after reading the article. So often we assume thing to be one way, and they are really quite different. Nice job! -Mrs. R

  5. yes I do believe that this will help me because looking from left to right gives you the full experience of the layout and the photographs that are in it,it helps you understand how the year went and what everyone did this year now looking left to right is not only in the year book it is while we are taking photographs if we do look left to right we may see things that we did not before such as if were at a soccer game and wee look around than realize their is a ball boy their who is very into the game there is a photo op and this is what I will be doing from know on while taking photos and when I have my camera with me!
